Swizchem is coming to Helsinki this October - seminar, hands-on workshop, and lunch at two campuses.

When researchers order a specialized compound from a CRO, one of the most common frustrations is not the cost — it is the wait. And more specifically, not knowing why the wait is as long as it is. This October, Swizchem is running two morning events in Helsinki designed to change that. We cover the types of compounds we handle — from Fmoc building blocks and ADC linkers to isotope-labelled standards and bioorthogonal probes — and how we approach custom projects from inquiry to delivery. The workshop that follows is hands-on. Participants receive a card showing a real molecule and its synthesis route, then estimate how many weeks it would take a CRO to deliver that compound from today. Then we reveal the real answer — and explain every step that drives it. The results are consistently surprising. Even experienced researchers regularly underestimate delivery times, particularly for compounds requiring isotope labelling, moisture-sensitive handling, or regulatory-grade documentation. Starting material sourcing, sequential scheduling constraints, QC protocols, and purity verification all add time in ways that are easy to miss if you have never been inside a synthesis facility. The workshop covers three difficulty levels and takes about 20 minutes. After that, we have lunch together — which is usually where the most interesting questions come up. About the venues: Terkko Health Hub (October 21) is Finland's largest health and life sciences hub, located on the Meilahti Campus. Our first seminar here in May was attended by researchers from the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy — and the conversations that followed are what shaped the workshop format. Helsinki Think Company Viikki (October 27) is home to one of Finland's most active life science research communities, with strong groups in biology, biochemistry, food sciences, and environmental research. This is our first event on the Viikki campus. Both sessions are free, informal, and open to researchers, students, lab managers, startup teams, and anyone in the life sciences who has ever ordered a specialized chemical and wondered why it took so long. At Swizchem, we work on custom organic synthesis and contract research for clients across pharma, biotech, diagnostics, and academia. The biggest barrier to working with a CRO is often not cost — it is uncertainty about timelines and process. These events are our way of reducing that uncertainty, in person.
