Alexa Fluor 488 5-SDP ester reacts with primary amines to form stable amide bonds between the fluorescent dye and the target molecule, similar to succinimidyl (SE or NHS) and tetrafluorophenyl (TFP) esters. Its improved stability in water and aqueous buffers may provide greater control, consistency, and reproducibility during conjugation reactions compared with NHS and TFP esters.
