Uses: Excitation and Emission wavelength Ex/Em = 510/580 nm.; MitoSOX Red is a cell-permeable fluorescent probe that selectively targets mitochondria for the detection of mitochondrial superoxide. After entering mitochondria, MitoSOX Red is oxidized by superoxide and the oxidized probe binds to nucleic acids, producing strong red fluorescence. This makes MitoSOX Red a useful fluorescent indicator for detecting mitochondrial superoxide production. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) can inhibit MitoSOX Red oxidation by scavenging superoxide.
